Taproot Pictures Presents “Lead The Way” — A Veteran’s Journey Honoring History and Legacy
Grand Rapids, MI — Taproot Pictures is proud to announce the release of its stirring documentary short, “Lead The Way,” following retired U.S. Army Ranger, Special Forces Green Beret, and Tier 1 Assault Sergeant Major John “Shrek” McPhee as he embarks on a deeply personal mission to preserve the legacy of World War II.
In this cinematic journey, McPhee traverses Ireland and France, tracing the footsteps—and sacrifices—of the Allied forces, and delving into the storied heritage of U.S. Army Rangers and Paratroopers. The film captures the poignant atmosphere of the 75th Anniversary of D‑Day in Normandy, where McPhee and fellow veterans take part in the Liberty Jump team’s commemorative demonstration—a moving tribute for one of the last large gatherings of WWII veterans.
Directed and shot by Josh Carrasquillo, with editing by Carrasquillo and Karl Koelling, Lead The Way runs approximately 8 minutes and 43 seconds and was completed in May 2020.
This heartfelt project was made possible through generous contributions via GoFundMe, driven by the goal to preserve history and introduce younger generations, who may never have the opportunity to meet a WWII veteran, to the profound legacy of those who served.
