Adventure in the Montana Mountains

We were tasked by Campbell Ewald to tell a story about avid skier and influencer, Claire Mitchell, as she uses OnStar technology to keep her safe in the rugged Montana mountains. Big Sky Resort, known for its vast and varied terrain, provided the perfect canvas to showcase the intersection of sport and technology. Claire's dynamic presence on the slopes, combined with her use of OnStar products in challenging environments, highlighted the brand's commitment to safety and adventure.

THE CHALLENGE

Filming at Big Sky Ski Resort, one of the most challenging terrains in the country! The slopes were steep, the weather unpredictable, and the task of capturing cinematic footage on the mountain was daunting. But, as they say, the tougher the challenge, the sweeter the victory. We were tasked with delivering a two minute brand story, along with a multitude of cut-downs and photography to build out a comprehensive storyline about how OnStar can help customers in the wild.

FILMING ON THE SLOPES

Capturing motion on a ski slope is an art. It's incredibly time-consuming, requires precision, and, most importantly, a deep understanding of the sport and environment. Thanks to our partnership with Big Sky Resort, we had early access to the mountain, allowing us to film on perfect runs, minus the crowds. When the mountain did open, we were able to avoid most of the crowds by navigating to lesser known parts of the resort.

A Bit About Our Approach

One of the biggest production hurdles was managing camera media and lenses. Swapping became a process of refined logistics. We had to be prepared to not make it back to the main resort area if we were traversing other parts of the mountain. Our crew and guides served as porters for our equipment across the mountain. We successfully managed our camera and media on the mountain to ensure maximum filming time and offload of footage.

Color grading is an essential part of the finished product and this project was no exception. We partnered with Jacob McKee at Forager to develop a unique look for all of the footage for this project.
