Harvesting Stories: Ross Chastain, Watermelons & the Silverado EV
When NASCAR phenom Ross Chastain trades screeching tires for sun-kissed fields, he returns to his heritage as an eighth-generation watermelon farmer. In Taproot Pictures’ MELON 1 case study, we captured an exclusive, cinematic glimpse into his off‑season world, where the Chevrolet Silverado EV Work Truck isn’t just another vehicle; it’s a game‑changer in how farming gets done. Read on to learn how we partnered with Weber Shandwick and the Chevrolet team to bring this project to life. Taproot Pictures.
A Day in the Life on the Farm
Set against rolling fields and golden Florida light, the Silverado EV WT stands ready, from dawn’s first charge to the sunset haul. This content beautifully showcases how its electric power, dependable range, and built‑for‑the‑job reliability keep pace with the demanding rhythms of agricultural life. Taproot Pictures
Precision in Production
With only one afternoon to scout a sprawling farm, our crew had to think on their feet. The best watermelon field sat a solid 15 minutes away from the main facility—a logistical puzzle that demanded tight precision in timing.
Golden hour was fleeting, and so were our opportunities to capture cinematic drone footage and the Silverado EV charging at dawn. To stay on schedule, we split the team—one group on drone visuals, another capturing the farm’s character—from the signage to the harvest lanes.
Flexibility & Authenticity in Real Time
Every agricultural shoot has its share of unexpected turns, and this one was no exception. But where many see compromise, our crew found creative opportunity. Through agile decision-making and on-the-fly problem-solving, we transformed constraints into compelling storytelling.
The result? A film that feels as authentic and grounded as driving into the field at dawn, cinematic yet true to life.
Crafting the Taproot Experience
This wasn’t just a commercial shoot, it was a story cultivated through collaboration. From Ross and his family to our entire crew, the production was designed as a white-glove experience. We treated agency and client as true partners, nurturing the story’s emotional roots all the way from concept to final cut.
We’re honored to have worked alongside Ross and his father, and grateful to everyone who helped bring this project to fruition.
